Country star Carrie Underwood released her new Christmas album on Friday, and it features an adorable collaboration with her son.
“My Gift,” Underwood’s first Christmas album, includes vocals from the “American Idol” winner’s five-year-old son, Isaiah, according to Fox News.
“It was just such a proud moment for me as a mom,” Underwood told the Associated Press of Isaiah’s performance.
Isaiah provided vocals for “Little Drummer Boy,” a song which Underwood said reminds her of him, according to NBC’s “Today” show.
“Whenever I think about that song, I picture (Isaiah’s) face and personality — that is so him,” Underwood said in an interview with the “Today” show on Thursday. “He would be the kid that would make you something and bring it to you, because that’s what he had to give you.”
“That’s the whole sentiment behind ‘Little Drummer Boy.’ (He) is bringing what he has to Jesus, which is why I wanted to name my album ‘My Gift,’ because I feel like the gift of music is such a blessing in my life. I really want to give that back to Jesus.”
“My Gift” also includes a performance from John Legend, who sings with Underwood on “Hallelujah,” which Legend co-wrote, according to Fox. Underwood and Legend recorded the song separately due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As for why Underwood is choosing to release a Christmas album in September, she told the Associated Press that she hopes the album can bring some positivity during a difficult year.
“We definitely wanted to just be positive in all of what we’re doing,” Underwood told AP.
